We're updating help docs to reflect our new product naming. Gladly Sidekick (AI) is now called just Gladly, and Gladly Hero (the Platform) is now Gladly Team. Some articles may display outdated names while we update everything. Thank you for your patience! Learn more

Manage Custom and External Apps

Prev Next

The Apps page in Gladly Settings is a central hub where Admins and Managers can manage both custom and external apps, and configure them for use with Gladly. No developer resources are required.

Apps page tabs

The Apps page has two tabs: App Platform and Lookup Adapters, but note that this article covers the App Platform tab.

What is the Apps page?

The Apps page lists all apps connected to your Gladly environment via the App Platform. Each row displays the configuration name and the app it connects to. A toggle on each row shows whether that configuration is currently active.

From this page, Admins and Managers can see at a glance which apps are configured and active, add new configurations, and make changes, without needing to involve a developer.

Install a custom app

If your team has built a custom app using the App Platform framework, you can upload it directly from the Apps page. This is separate from Gladly's out-of-the-box apps, which are installed using the appcfg CLI tool.

  1. Go to Settings, then select Apps under App Developer Tools.

  2. Click Install App in the upper right corner.

  3. Upload your app's ZIP archive file. The archive is validated automatically upon upload.

After installation, the app will be available to select when creating a new configuration.

Create a configuration

Use configurations to connect apps to Gladly. Pre-installed external apps like Shopify, Loop Returns, and Skio each display a tailored configuration form when selected, with only the fields needed to get that app set up and ready to use. A single app can have multiple configurations, for example, separate configurations for production and sandbox environments.

Create a configuration

  1. On the App Platform tab, click Create Configuration.

  2. Enter a Configuration Name. This name appears throughout Gladly, so make it recognizable (for example, Shopify Production or Loop Returns App Production).

  3. Under External App, select the app this configuration should connect to. A form appears with the fields required to set up that app.

  4. Complete the fields in the configuration form.

  5. Toggle Configuration is active to activate the configuration immediately, or leave it inactive to activate later.

  6. Save your changes.

Edit a configuration

  1. On the App Platform tab, locate the configuration you want to update.

  2. Click the edit icon on the right side of the row.

  3. Update any fields as needed, then save your changes.

Quickly Activate / Deactivate from Apps page

Use the toggle on each configuration row to activate or deactivate it at any time. Deactivating a configuration stops Gladly from using it without deleting it.
