# Messaging Protocols (SMS/MMS)

There are two methods of communication over SMS:

1. Short Message Service (**SMS**) (text only)
2. Multimedia Messaging Service (**MMS**) (pictures, audio, and video content)

| Character Limitations | 160-characters. Longer messages are broken up into multiple texts. Limited to text only. | Carrier dependent; ~300KB. Can send attachments and pictures. |
| Numbers Supported | You can use your 1-800 number or local number for SMS. | You can use your 1-800 number or local number for MMS. |
