# How do I make an IVR inactive?

You may want to make an IVR inactive if you're no longer using an IVR for any phone number or queue experience. This effectively deactivates and prevents the IVR from being used.

IVRs that are not linked to any phone number as an **Initial** or **Queue** or IVR in the [Voice settings](https://help.gladly.com/docs/voice-phone-number-settings) page are automaticaly placed in [Inactive](https://help.gladly.com/docs/check-active-and-inactive-ivrs) status. This is when it can be officially be [archived](https://help.gladly.com/docs/edit-restore-archive-and-duplicate-an-ivr#archive-or-unarchive-an-ivr) and placed from an Inactive to *Archive* status.

1. Go to Settings > Voice and ensure the IVR is not linked to any phone number's **Initial** or **Queue** IVR.
2. Go to Settings > IVR and click the **Inactive** tab to view IVRs not linked to a phone number.
3. Hover over the phone number and click the [Archive](https://help.gladly.com/docs/edit-restore-archive-and-duplicate-an-ivr#archive-or-unarchive-an-ivr) option.
