# Are we required to configure Business Hours?

No, but we recommend you set them up with either Email or Messaging Answers to help with time-based responses and automation, like setting up replies during non-operating hours on Email and Messaging Channels (except chat and IVR) through Rules.

It’s also recommended that you configure your primary operating hours and set them in the[SLA Business Hours setting](https://help.gladly.com/docs/what-is-sla-business-hours) for reporting purposes.
